I. Project Background

With the booming development of the gaming industry, a German company specializing in game controller research and development decided to upgrade the joystick of one of its game controllers to enhance user experience. After careful consideration, the company chose to collaborate with us to customize a joystick with superior touch and durability.

II. Product Requirements

The customized controller thumb stick consists of two parts: the top is made of liquid silicone rubber to ensure excellent touch, and the bottom is made of ABS as the support rod to ensure structural stability. The client required two different lengths of products to meet the adaptability requirements of different game consoles. We designed a mold with four cavities for this project, with three cavities for short controller thumb sticks and one for long controller thumb sticks. Additionally, we developed a separate mold for the liquid silicone rubber part.

The client emphasized that the controller thumb stick needs to achieve good adaptability with the game console, ensuring a snug fit that is neither too tight nor too loose, facilitating players' operation and enhancing the gaming experience.

III. Mold Design and Manufacturing

Injection Mold Design:

We have dozens of mold designers with over ten years of experience. Upon receiving the client's drawings and requirements, they quickly formulated a detailed DFM (Design for Manufacturing) report.

To ensure the product's appearance is unaffected, we designed an extremely thin gate on the thumb key component, measuring only 0.05mm.

We optimized the product parting line, ejector pin positions, and other aspects to ensure the highest product quality.

Mold Manufacturing:

Alpine Mold is equipped with hundreds of precision-grade processing equipment to ensure the accuracy of mold manufacturing.

We utilize FANUC CNC to process the mold cavity, ensuring the precision of the mold structure.

By utilizing mirror EDM machines to process mold textures, the equipment achieves a processing accuracy of 0.01mm, guaranteeing the mold's high precision and stability.
