About the client

This customer is from Australia, and the main products are tools for measuring dental health. The SpaceCHQR device is a series of medical grade stainless steel gauges of specific thicknesses which allow both patients and dental health care professionals to measure the distance between teeth down to a 10micron (0.01mm) tolerance.

The products of this project cooperated with us are mainly used to detect (1) if too much space exists between teeth (a food trap) or (2) if there is insufficient space to allow for tooth movement during orthodontic treatment.

About the product

Since this product is a tool for measuring teeth distance in this project, we recommend ABS material of medical grade to the customer. At the same time, the customer needs to assemble ultrasonic ultra-thin 0.03mm blade, which also requires high precision of the mold.

This product is composed of three parts and needs to be assembled. One of the biggest difficulties is that there is a buckle on the assembly, which needs a very precise matching, not too loose and not too tight, which requires us to make the optimal plan in the design of the mold.

The characteristic medical grade ABS

Medical grade ABS has good impact strength and surface hardness at room temperature, good dimensional stability, certain chemical resistance and good electrical insulation. At the same time, we can also provide customers with the test certificate of relevant materials.

Plastic Injection molding

This product is composed of three parts, the buckle part, the middle part, and the outer case. Because the blade needs to be installed, we will emphasize with our mold test master to use special ABS materials and add Clariant masterbatches which are all medical grade materials when injection molding.

The customer required that the outer shell of the product should be made with the appearance of fire pattern. We used our Charmilles spark machine to achieve such a pattern. The other two parts should be treated with polished surface.

Molding the plastic buckle

Because this product needs to be assembled together, the buckle is the most important part, the adaptation requirements are very high, need to install the buckle after the assembly of other parts. We also need to test whether the perfection of the assembly meets the requirements of the customer. If it is too loose, the whole product will be loose when assembled together. If it is too tight, the middle part will not be taken out.
